Guinea
Guinean President Alpha Conde and opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo on Thursday pledged their commitment to foster “regular exchanges” two weeks after opposition violent demonstration.
The meeting was also perhaps in effort to thaw soured relations between the two. Conde said the meeting had covered “many points” and that the two would now meet regularly because they both want whats best for guinea’s citizens.
“He was a minister, prime minister, so he has some experience in the management of our country. he has very interesting views. And even when I have to travel, I listen to what he thinks of our relations with any country,” he said.
Diallo added that they,“have decided such meetings between the leader leader of the opposition and the president should be frequent . There was convergence of views on many issues. We talked a lot about other aspects of national and international politics and we have managed to resolve our differences.”
Violence broke out on August 17 after police fired into protesters. One person was killed and 12 others got injured according to witnesses. A police captain who was identified to have been behind the firing of the shots was subsequently arrested.
